LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) — A half dozen empty bottles of water and energy drinks surrounded the chair where Chucky Hepburn sat in the University of Louisville locker room at Rupp Arena. When you grind for 39 minutes and 23 seconds, more playing time than any teammate, there’s plenty of fluid to replace. A bag of unopened Welch’s fruit snacks were on the floor, inches from an energy bar wrapper as well as a discarded bag of cheese crackers. But there was no greater evidence of the incessant 35-game, 10-month investment Hepburn made in bringing the Louisville basketball program back to…
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday calling for the dismantling of the U.S. Education Department, advancing a campaign promise to take apart an agency that’s been a longtime target of conservatives. Trump has derided the Education Department as wasteful and polluted by liberal ideology. However, completing its dismantling is most likely impossible without an act of Congress, which created the department in 1979. Republicans said they will introduce a bill to achieve that. The department, however, is not set to close completely. The White House said the department will retain certain critical functions. Trump said…
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge has temporarily blocked Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from Social Security Administration systems that hold personally identifiable data on millions of Americans. The decision from U.S. District Judge Ellen Hollander also requires the team to delete any identifiable data they may have. It comes after labor unions and retirees asked for an emergency order limiting DOGE access to the agency and its vast troves of personal data. The administration has said DOGE’s work at the agency is aimed at reducing waste and fraud in the federal government. The post DOGE blocked in court…

In a news release, Louisville Metro Police said 19-year-old Dacion Mason is a suspect in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Tayshawn Thomas. The shooting happened just after midnight on June 25, 2024, on Bellamy Place at an apartment complex near the University of Louisville. Anyone who sees Mason or knows where he could be is asked to call LMPD, but police warn that he should be considered armed and dangers. So don’t approach…
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) — Buried in the four-day uproar over the 8-seed that the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee hung on the University of Louisville men’s basketball team was this inarguable critical nugget: Creighton deserved more than a No. 9 seed. Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals discovered that stinging reality early and often Thursday afternoon at Rupp Arena. The Bluejays blitzed U of L with a fierce mixture of three-point field goals and layups, surging to a 20-point lead in the first half, while rolling to one-sided 89-75 victory in the Cards’ first NCAA Tournament game in six seasons. It was…
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Baxter’s 942 continues to fight to reopen after the city denied its renewal to sell alcohol. The popular Highlands nightclub and bar has been temporality closed since 2024. While the owner, Kevin Strnatka, said it’s been a struggle to stay afloat, some neighbors believe there have been fewer issues since the nightclub shut its doors. “I’m not too excited about them reopening,” Jacob Boeschel said. “I’d prefer they stayed closed, honestly.” He’s one of several Highlands residents who told WDRB they associate shootings and brawls with Baxter’s 942. Boeschel said he saw several fights while working across the street from…
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The longest serving sheriff in Jefferson County history said he plans to make his current term his last. Sheriff John Aubrey is now in his 7th term said he will not be running for another. “You will know when the right time is to take a break,” he said. “I have come to the conclusion that the time for the break has come. I will not be running for an 8th term as Jefferson County,” he said on Thursday. Aubrey has spent 27 years in the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office. Prior to becoming the sheriff, he…
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — More than 30 people tried swaying town leaders’ decisions on new development in Birkdale Village. While most town commissioners voted for the proposed plan, neighbors still left feeling unheard — even after representatives from Birkdale’s management firm answered their concerns during Tuesday night’s meeting. “I was just on Sam Furr Road today… It’s packed,” one woman said. “So I ask if we already have pedestrian-friendly hotels approved for the area serving visitors without adding congestion in or parking string in Birkdale Village. Why approve another hotel that disrupts local businesses and adds unnecessary traffic…
