CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Cancer Registry has once again been nationally recognized for excellence, earning the Gold Standard for Registry Certification from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). This marks the 26th consecutive year the program has achieved this prestigious distinction.
The Gold Standard certification represents the highest level of quality, completeness, and timeliness in cancer data collection. Administered by the West Virginia Department of Health, the registry plays a crucial role in tracking cancer trends and outcomes across the state.
“Our ability to track data that is of quality is vital as we work each and every day to learn more about cancer, its cause, and its cure,” said Dr. Arvin Singh, Secretary of Health. “I want to wholeheartedly applaud our Cancer Registry team for their hard work and dedication. This national recognition, and the fact that we’ve retained it for nearly three decades, is proof of their unwavering commitment.”
The West Virginia Cancer Registry operates within the Department of Health’s Bureau for Public Health, Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services, Division of Cancer Epidemiology. It collects data on all cancers diagnosed and/or treated in West Virginia, and also includes cancer cases involving West Virginia residents treated in other states through reciprocal data-sharing agreements.
The registry’s data is used by researchers, healthcare providers, and public health officials to better understand cancer patterns, improve treatment strategies, and guide prevention efforts across the state.
