OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Fayette County woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and causing a head-on crash that left two people injured.
The incident occurred Thursday, May 29, around 1:21 p.m. on Prudence Road near Oak Hill.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a 2002 Chevrolet S10 pickup and a 2021 Chevrolet Trax.
Investigators say the driver of the pickup, identified as Destiny R. Belmont, struck the other vehicle head-on.
Two individuals, including a man riding in the bed of the truck, were transported to the hospital with injuries.
Deputies noted signs of drug impairment in Belmont at the scene, including disorientation, constricted pupils, and unsteadiness.
Belmont admitted to taking Suboxone earlier in the day and later confessed to using fentanyl shortly before the crash.
Field sobriety tests were conducted, and deputies reported clear signs of impairment. Belmont was arrested and transported to the sheriff’s office for processing.
A blood sample was later obtained through a search warrant at Plateau Medical Center.
The vehicle Belmont was driving was found to be uninsured and, according to its owner, had been taken without permission.
Belmont has been charged with DUI Causing Bodily Injury, Required Security (no insurance), and Unlawful Taking of a Vehicle.
She is currently out on bond.
