MASON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A wanted fugitive was apprehended Thursday after a high-speed pursuit that began in Mason, West Virginia, and ended with a crash in Meigs County, Ohio, thanks to a coordinated effort among multiple law enforcement agencies.
The chase began around 10:25 AM when Mason Metro Police Chief Colton McKinney was alerted by New Haven Police Chief D. Hardwick about a male suspect with active felony warrants. The suspect, later identified as Timothy Wesley Wickersham of Pomeroy, Ohio, was reportedly parked at the Mason Walmart on Mallard Lane and was known to be aggressive with a history of fleeing from police.
Officers located Wickersham’s vehicle—a gold/silver Chevrolet 2500 HD—and attempted a coordinated stop with support from Mason County Chief Deputy Zerkle. Wickersham fled the scene, leading officers on a pursuit across county and state lines, driving recklessly and endangering the public before crashing in Meigs County, Ohio.
Felony warrants were issued for Wickersham through the Mason County Magistrate Court for fleeing with reckless indifference under West Virginia Code §61-5-17(f).
Wickersham was successfully taken into custody later that day by the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office—thanks in part to an unexpected assist from a passing FedEx driver.
“This case highlights the incredible collaboration between agencies on both sides of the state line,” said Chief McKinney. “I want to thank every officer, dispatcher, and citizen who played a role in ensuring this individual was brought into custody without further incident. Their teamwork and professionalism were second to none.”
The Mason Metro Police Department extended its gratitude to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, New Haven Police Department, Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, West Virginia State Police Aviation Unit, and the Mason & Meigs County 911 Centers for their vital assistance.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
