POCAHONTAS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Pocahontas County Parks & Recreation Department has announced a shift in its role within the county’s youth soccer league, moving from direct oversight to a supportive capacity. While the department will continue to assist with field maintenance and provide equipment, key responsibilities such as registration, coaching, and scheduling will now be led by local community leadership teams.
In a statement released this week, Parks & Rec clarified that the Pocahontas County Youth Soccer League has always functioned independently, although it was previously organized through the department. The league can continue to operate as a registered member of the West Virginia Soccer Association (WVSA), District 5, under the guidance of the new parent-led leadership team. Maintaining this registration ensures ongoing access to league insurance and adherence to WVSA standards.
To guide a smooth transition and engage the community in the league’s future, a Community Interest Meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, June 8 at 3:00 p.m. at Dunmore United Methodist Church. All parents, coaches, and residents interested in supporting or learning more about the youth soccer program are encouraged to attend.
Parks & Rec officials expressed gratitude for the community’s continued involvement and emphasized their commitment to helping the league thrive in its new structure.
