CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced today that he has formally submitted a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) waiver request to the federal government.
The request seeks to remove soda from the list of approved SNAP purchases and replace it with healthier food options.
The waiver is part of the Governor’s broader public health initiative, known as the “Four Pillars of a Healthy West Virginia,” which he introduced earlier this year.
The initiative focuses on improving the health and well-being of West Virginians through a variety of measures.
“As part of the Governor’s ‘Four Pillars,’ he is working to introduce changes to SNAP, including work requirements and promoting healthy food options,” his office stated.
Governor Morrisey is also continuing to advocate for increased physical activity through the Mountaineer Mile program, which encourages residents to get daily exercise.
