
MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Sidney Jordan Sims, age 31, of Bluefield, West Virginia, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person and 1-5 years in prison for Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer.
Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Brian K. Cochran said Bluefield Police arrested Sims on March 31, 2024. Cochran noted that Sims was indicted by the June 2024 Mercer County Grand Jury and pleaded guilty on March 4, 2025.
Cochran said that Judge Ryan J. Flanigan handed down the prison sentence on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, and ordered both sentences to run consecutively. Cochran credited Sims’ convictions to the Bluefield Police Department for its investigation into Sims’ crimes.
