CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — A tense manhunt that unfolded Wednesday afternoon has ended with the arrest of 41-year-old William F. Horrighs IV, who was taken into custody near Camdenton City Park, not far from the Camdenton Aquatic Center.
According to Camden County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Hines, the department’s Public Information Officer, Horrighs IV was located and arrested behind the Highlander Public House near the intersection of Sutton Road and City Park Road. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation, per standard procedure, and will be booked into the Camden County Jail. He faces multiple pending charges.
The incident began earlier in the day during a traffic stop, when a deputy spotted a vehicle believed to be associated with Horrighs IV. Upon making contact, Horrighs reportedly provided a false name. Moments later, he allegedly attempted to seize the deputy’s firearm, prompting a physical altercation.
Deputy Hines confirmed that a struggle ensued before Horrighs IV fled on foot into nearby wooded areas, launching an hours-long manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The deputy sustained minor scrapes during the encounter but is otherwise unharmed.
Authorities say Horrighs IV has a violent history with law enforcement. In 2006, he reportedly shot a Camdenton police officer after taking that officer’s weapon. Nearly two decades later, he is accused of attempting a similar act once again.
Thanks to a swift and coordinated search effort, Horrighs IV was apprehended without further incident. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to finalize charges and determine whether any additional individuals may have aided him.
Community members in the Camdenton area are breathing a sigh of relief as the suspect is now in custody, and authorities assure the public that there is no further threat to safety.
