
INWOOD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man has been charged with murder following a deadly incident Tuesday afternoon in Berkeley County.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a report of a physical disturbance at 473 Sulphur Springs Road in Inwood around 3:15 p.m. on June 10.
Upon arrival, deputies found a woman deceased and a man injured.
The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Heather Welcome of Inwood.
The injured man, identified as 41-year-old Derrick Fillinger, also of Inwood, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds.
Fillinger has since been charged with murder in connection with Welcome’s death.
Deputies involved in the response included Deputy Weidman, Deputy Jenkins, Deputy Milburn, Deputy McCulley, Deputy Little, Lieutenant Anaya, and Lieutenant Boothby.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division.
