LEE’S SUMMIT, MO — A tragic accident involving a bicyclist has prompted an active investigation by Lee’s Summit Police after a fatal collision occurred Wednesday morning.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. on June 11, 2025, emergency crews responded to the intersection of SW Jefferson Street and SW Scherer Road following reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist with injuries.
Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the bicyclist was traveling southbound on the sidewalk along the east side of SW Jefferson Street. As the rider attempted to cross the westbound lanes of SW Scherer Road, they were struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The bicyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby trauma center, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim pending family notification.
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and was evaluated by paramedics. They declined further medical treatment and did not require hospitalization.
At this time, no citations or charges have been issued as investigators work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The Lee’s Summit Police Department continues to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
