GAULEY BRIDGE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A man wanted on an outstanding warrant was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon at a campsite along the Gauley River — and now faces additional charges for animal cruelty.
According to law enforcement, Sgt. Simmons, along with Cpl. S. Milam, S/Tpr. J. Stewart, and Natural Resources Police Officer J. Deeds, arrested Scotty Lee Stone around 1 p.m. on June 4 in Fayette County.
While at the campsite, officers discovered four sickly dogs — a full-grown female and three puppies, all believed to be Pitbull-German Shepherd mixes. The animals were described as severely malnourished and suffering from mange.
Animal Control Officer Jamison Shuff responded to the scene and took custody of the dogs.
Stone is now facing four counts of animal cruelty under West Virginia Code §61-8-19 in addition to the initial charges related to his arrest warrant.
