RANDOLPH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities in Randolph County responded to a serious emergency call on Monday, June 2, 2025, that was later determined to be a false report, also known as “swatting.”
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in around 2:16 p.m. from a male claiming he had shot his wife and son and had attempted suicide.
Deputies gathered details about the man’s identity and location before responding to the scene in the Helvetia area.
Multiple law enforcement agencies—including deputies from Randolph and Upshur Counties, West Virginia State Police from several counties, and West Virginia Natural Resources Police—were dispatched to the area.
The property in question contained three cabin-style residences, and officers attempted to contact those inside without success.
Due to the severity of the report, law enforcement made a forced entry to preserve potential lives.
After searching the property, no victims or signs of a crime were found.
Officers determined the report was a swatting incident—a false emergency call intended to provoke a significant law enforcement response.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident and working to identify the individual responsible for the false report.
