PALM BEACH, FL (LOOTPRESS) – A 23-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after attempting to scale a fence at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The individual, identified as Anthony Thomas Reyes, reportedly told authorities he was trying to gain access to the property to “spread the gospel” to Trump and marry his teenage granddaughter.
According to the Palm Beach Police Department, Reyes was detained by U.S. Secret Service personnel shortly after midnight when he triggered perimeter alarms by climbing a fence surrounding the private club. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with occupied trespassing.
Police records show this was not Reyes’s first attempt to enter the property. On New Year’s Eve, Reyes was previously warned by police for trespassing at Mar-a-Lago while Trump was on the premises.
During questioning after his latest arrest, Reyes allegedly stated his intentions were religious in nature and included a desire to marry Trump’s granddaughter, identified as Kai.
Reyes was initially held on $1,000 bond, but that amount was later increased to $50,000, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office. Federal charges are also under consideration.
At the time of the incident, Donald Trump was in Washington, D.C., and not at the Florida property.
The U.S. Secret Service confirmed the breach in a statement: “An adult male was arrested early Tuesday morning by the Palm Beach Police Department for unlawfully entering the Mar-a-Lago Club property in Florida. Shortly after midnight, the individual scaled a perimeter fence and triggered alarms. U.S. Secret Service personnel detained him without incident.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
