CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Big changes are on the horizon for West Virginia’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders. Starting Monday, June 23, 2025, CDL drivers will no longer need to submit a paper copy of their Medical Examiner’s Certificate to the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Under a new system, medical providers will directly upload medical certification information into a secure database, which will be automatically transmitted to the DMV. Providers will have until the end of the next business day following the exam to complete the entry.
This modernized process is expected to speed up record updates, reduce paperwork, and prevent unnecessary downgrades or out-of-service orders caused by expired or missing medical certifications.
Although drivers may still receive a copy of their certificate from the examiner, no paper certificates will be accepted by the DMV after June 23.
The DMV urges all CDL holders to ensure they stay current with their medical exams and verify that their provider submits the required information on time.
