SHADY SPRING, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A local man is facing charges after allegedly tampering with a public utility to restore water service to his home without authorization.
According to a report filed by Trooper J.K. Farmer, a complaint was received on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from the Shady/Cool Ridge Public Service District (PSD). A PSD employee reported that a water meter had previously been removed from a residence due to non-payment. When the employee returned to the property days later, they discovered a PVC pipe and fittings installed in place of the meter, allowing unregulated water to supply the home.
The unauthorized piping was removed by the PSD to stop further use.
Trooper Farmer visited the residence and spoke with the homeowner, who allegedly admitted to bypassing the meter after his water service was shut off. He reportedly stated that he installed the PVC pipe himself so his home could continue receiving water.
Trooper Farmer has requested a warrant for intent to defraud in connection with the illegal water hookup.
