HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested in Huntington on Tuesday, May 27, following a tense police chase after a woman called 911 claiming she had been kidnapped and was in fear for her life.
Cabell County 911 received the emergency call at approximately 1:20 p.m., reporting that a woman was screaming she had been kidnapped and was in a moving vehicle with a man who was allegedly armed with a knife.
The pair were believed to be traveling in a 2001 white Chrysler Town & Country van near Avondale Road and Washington Boulevard.
Responding officers located the vehicle and a white male crouching nearby. When approached, the man refused to identify himself and became aggressive and non-compliant, according to the criminal complaint.
Despite repeated commands to stop and turn around, the man ignored officers and began walking away.
Due to concerns he may have been armed, one officer drew his firearm while continuing to issue commands. As additional officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot toward the 300 block of Olive Street.
Officers gave chase and a brief struggle followed before the suspect was apprehended and identified as Kyle Huffman.
During the struggle, Huffman allegedly pushed an officer and grabbed onto the officer’s ballistic vest.
Once the scene was secured, officers spoke with the woman involved, who stated Huffman had picked her up after class and began driving erratically, including running a red light and speeding through traffic.
She told police the situation became so frightening she feared for her safety and called 911.
Huffman has been charged with Domestic Violence, Battery on Governmental Representative, and Obstructing an Officer.
