AUBURN, Ind. — The Indiana State Police has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday evening in Auburn, leaving one man injured.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., DeKalb County dispatch received a report of a man who had entered a residence in the 300 block of W. 11th Street and pointed a firearm at another person. The Auburn Police Department responded to the scene, but the suspect had already fled the area.
A short time later, Auburn officers located the man nearby. According to a statement from Indiana State Police, the suspect was still armed, and an exchange of gunfire ensued between him and the officers.
The suspect was shot and injured during the confrontation. Once the area was secured, Auburn officers rendered emergency first aid until medics arrived on scene. The man was then transported to a local hospital for treatment. His name and current condition have not yet been released.
No officers were injured during the incident.
As is standard procedure, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Indiana State Police is leading the inquiry at the request of the Auburn Police Department.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” state police said in a news release. “Further information will be provided as it becomes available.”
Multiple agencies responded to assist at the scene, including the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Garrett Police Department, Avilla Police Department, Auburn Fire Department, and Parkview EMS.
