SPRINGDALE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Fayette County man is dead following a tragic vehicle accident early Sunday morning in the Springdale area on West Virginia Route 20.
According to Fayette County Sheriff Jess McMullen, the Fayette County E911 Center received a call shortly after 2:00 a.m. reporting an unconscious male lying in the roadway, surrounded by a downed power line.
Deputies and fire personnel responded to the scene and located a pickup truck approximately 50 feet down an embankment.
Investigators determined that the driver had lost control of the vehicle, struck a power pole, and continued over the embankment.
Evidence at the scene suggests the driver managed to crawl back up to the roadway, where he may have come into contact with the downed power line, resulting in fatal electrocution.
The driver’s identity is being withheld at this time to protect the privacy of the family. The incident remains under active investigation.
