WESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A report of stolen property led to the arrest of a Weston man who now faces charges of petit larceny and assaulting a police officer following a heated confrontation with law enforcement.
According to Corporal B.D. Hendershot of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, officers responded to a theft report from Frankie Knight at her residence on US Highway Route 33 West. Knight reported that on or around May 12, two individuals — identified as Chance Marple and Chase Wickline — broke a window on her 2007 Toyota Corolla and stole a black storage container filled with personal belongings.
The stolen items included a ThinkPad laptop, clothing, a marriage certificate, birth certificate, Social Security card, Nike and Chuck Taylor sneakers, and a pink North Face backpack — with an estimated total value of $600.
A witness later confirmed seeing Marple and Wickline removing the container from the vehicle.
That same day, law enforcement attempted to serve arrest warrants in connection to the incident. Upon arrival at the suspect’s residence, officers encountered Marple attempting to flee. Marple resisted arrest, pulling away from officers and ignoring verbal commands before being restrained and placed in handcuffs.
While being secured in a patrol vehicle, Marple allegedly spit on Corporal Hendershot.
Marple is now facing multiple charges, including petit larceny and assault on a law enforcement officer.
