JANE LEW, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A tragic incident on Sunday, May 25, 2025, has led to the death of a young child and the arrest of his father following a confession to causing the fatal injury out of frustration.
At approximately 8:59 a.m., Lewis County 911 dispatched law enforcement to 1013 McWhorter Road in Jane Lew in response to a reported cardiac arrest involving a juvenile. Upon arrival, emergency responders were already performing CPR on the child. Officers assisted with transporting the child to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, where resuscitation efforts continued.
Sadly, the child was pronounced dead at 10:11 a.m.
While hospital staff worked, officers returned to the residence to gather information from family members. The child’s grandparents, Nancy Blue and Alex Blackwell, told officers the juvenile had been sick on and off and had visited a doctor recently. They mentioned a minor bump to the head earlier that morning but did not suspect any neglect or abuse by the parents.
The child’s mother, Breanna Blue, and her partner, Zachary Williams, later told authorities that the juvenile had been fussy and refusing a nap. During questioning at the hospital, Williams stated he attempted to soothe the child but claimed the child suddenly went rigid and limp in his arms.
Hospital staff later found a chocolate-like substance in the child’s airway and observed staining on the pajamas. During the autopsy conducted on May 27 by the West Virginia Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston, it was discovered the child had suffered a severe skull fracture to the rear of the head — consistent with trauma.
Later that day, Williams voluntarily went to the Lewis County Judicial Annex for further questioning. After being read his rights, he confessed in a recorded interview to throwing the child in frustration, causing the fatal head injury. Williams stated the child struck his head on both the bed frame and floor and admitted, “It was all my fault.”
