COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) community is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Lopez Davis, a cherished alumnus of the Class of 2017 and a beloved former member of the Collegians Chorale.
Davis passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of music, faith, friendship, and unwavering kindness.
Known for his extraordinary vocal talent, warm heart, and joyful spirit, Lopez was a standout presence during his time at MVNU, where he sang passionately with the Collegians Chorale.
One of his most memorable performances came in April 2014 when the group sang a stirring rendition of “For Every Mountain” during their Spring Concert — a moment that continues to resonate with those who shared the stage with him.
Lopez’s influence extended far beyond the university. He was a deeply valued member of Five14 Church in Columbus, where he served as a worship leader and steadfast friend. The church community shared the devastating news of his passing earlier this week, remembering Lopez as “a light in every room, a steady presence, and a true friend.”
“While our hearts are heavy with grief, we also find deep comfort in knowing that Lopez is with Jesus—whole, at peace, and surrounded by eternal love,” the church said in a statement. “He brought warmth, laughter, and joy to so many of us, and we are forever grateful for the time we shared with him.”
Lopez’s sudden passing has left a deep void in the hearts of friends, family, former classmates, and congregants who were blessed to know him. Whether leading worship, sharing a kind word, or offering a heartfelt smile, Lopez consistently uplifted those around him with grace and humility.
To honor his life and legacy, a Memorial Service and Calling Hours will be held at Five14 Church, located at 5744 N. Hamilton Rd.., Columbus, OH 43230, on Wednesday, June 5. Calling hours will begin at 4:30 PM, followed by the memorial service at 6:00 PM.
As loved ones gather to remember Lopez, the focus will not only be on the pain of his passing but also on the beauty and impact of a life lived with deep faith and vibrant joy.
