HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Huntington mother was arrested Tuesday morning on child neglect charges after police discovered concerning conditions during a welfare check at her residence.
Officers responded to a home in Huntington around 7:34 a.m. following up on a welfare concern. Authorities noted that Cabell County EMS had visited the same residence the previous night when the mother reportedly complained of hernia pain and admitted to excessive alcohol consumption.
Upon entering the home, police found two young children living in what they described as unsanitary conditions. According to officers, dirty clothes and diapers were scattered throughout the residence. Most alarming to authorities were open beer cans discovered in what appeared to be the children’s bedroom, easily within reach of the young residents.
Shneekquwa Canady was arrested on charges of Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury. Police reported that Canady briefly resisted arrest by pulling away as officers attempted to handcuff her, resulting in officers taking her to the ground. She was then taken into custody without further incident.
Child Protective Services was called to the scene while officers documented the home conditions with photographs. The investigation is ongoing.
