A judge dismissed a temporary restraining order petition against Maui anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig, who faces attempted murder charges after allegedly trying to kill his wife on a Honolulu hiking trail. The petition, filed by Konig’s wife, claimed that he pushed her toward a cliff edge, attempted to inject her with a syringe, and struck her head with a rock during their visit to Oahu.
The dismissal came after the wife’s attorney informed the court that the restraining order was unnecessary while Konig remains held without bail. Should Konig’s custody status change, the petition may be refiled. Second Circuit Court Judge Bevanne J. Bowers approved the motion without objection from Konig’s defense attorney.
Konig pleaded not guilty in April and has been detained since his indictment on March 28. The incident allegedly occurred during a birthday celebration for the wife, as the couple visited from Maui.
The wife’s petition also included allegations that Konig accused her of infidelity in December and that the couple had undergone therapy. It further alleged sexual abuse and assault by Konig, though the Associated Press refrains from naming victims of sexual abuse unless they publicly consent.
The case continues to unfold as the legal process advances.
