KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A once-abandoned 1913 church in the Corton community is beginning a vibrant new chapter as Corton Lodge, a renovated gathering space and overnight retreat that honors its historic roots while embracing the future. The public is invited to attend a grand opening celebration and open house on Saturday, June 7, complete with live music, storytelling, food, and family-friendly fun.
Located at 14796 Elk River Rd N, Clendenin, the building’s transformation preserves its architectural charm while converting the space for lodging and events. Spearheaded by Ryan Stamm, a lifelong West Virginian and advocate for rural revitalization, the project reflects a strong commitment to community heritage.
“This has been a labor of love,” Stamm said. “We wanted to honor the past while creating a place that invites people to stay, connect, and explore this part of West Virginia.”
The renovation was completed with the help of local contractors, ensuring the investment supported nearby businesses and talent.

“This event is about more than opening a building,” Stamm added. “It’s about celebrating where we’ve been—and where we’re going.”
