CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Amazon released its latest Small Business Empowerment Report today, revealing that small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across the U.S.—including those in West Virginia—are seeing continued growth and economic impact through sales on the retail giant’s platform.
The report shows that independent sellers now account for over 60% of sales on Amazon, most of which come from SMBs. In West Virginia, sellers are thriving:
-
Average annual sales per independent seller exceeded $125,000 in 2024
-
More than 1 million items were sold by West Virginia sellers last year
Nationally, the numbers are just as impressive. Since opening its platform to independent sellers nearly 25 years ago, Amazon reports that third-party sellers have generated over $2.5 trillion in sales, with over 2.5 billion items exported globally.
In 2024 alone, U.S.-based independent sellers on Amazon averaged more than $290,000 in annual sales, with over 55,000 sellers generating more than $1 million each.
“This report reinforces the incredible impact small businesses continue to have not only on Amazon but on their local communities,” said Dharmesh Mehta, Vice President of Worldwide Selling Partner Services at Amazon. “We’re proud to partner with sellers and help power their growth.”
