
CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A devastating single-vehicle crash in the early hours of the morning has left two people dead and two others critically injured, according to the Charleston Police Department.
The crash occurred around 4:33 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 77 southbound near the I-64/77 split. Responding officers and members of the Charleston Fire Department arrived to find that a vehicle had collided with a concrete barrier wall and careened off the highway, landing below at the Martin Marietta Charleston Yard at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Two occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were rushed to CAMC General Hospital in critical condition. Authorities are withholding the names of the victims until their families can be notified.
The Charleston Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Officials say more details will be shared as they become available.
