LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Local independent drug stores are closing every week across the country, leaving patients without their trusted local pharmacist.
It’s happening nationwide. Pharmacies are saying it’s becoming too tough to make a profit and they’re forced to close their doors.
Benefit managers, essentially middlemen, are supposed to lower costs for consumers, but the fees they charge have recently skyrocketed.
A proposed bill in Congress, sponsored by both sides, would regulate profits and help small drug stores, but help here would be too late.
What you can do now is support your local pharmacy to help them stay in business.
