WASHINGTON, D.C. (LOOTPRESS) — When it comes to naming newborns, parents in the U.S. continue to show unwavering loyalty to a few timeless favorites. The Social Security Administration (SSA) released its annual list of the most popular baby names for 2024, and once again, Olivia and Liam top the charts.
This marks the sixth year in a row that Olivia has been the No. 1 name for girls and Liam the No. 1 for boys. Emma and Noah took the second spots respectively, also for the sixth consecutive year. These four names have dominated baby name lists since 2014.
Among notable changes in 2024, Mia pushed Sophia out of the top five for girls, a significant shift given Sophia’s long-standing popularity — it was No. 1 from 2011 to 2013 and a top-five staple for over a decade.

The SSA releases this list annually just ahead of Mother’s Day, based on data submitted when parents apply for a Social Security number for their newborn — a requirement for tax and legal purposes.
“As Mother’s Day nears, we remember the incredible impact that mothers have on our lives,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers in our lives who inspire us and set an example for future generations.”
