JACKSON COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — What began as a call about a domestic disturbance quickly escalated into a violent confrontation with law enforcement Thursday morning in Jackson County.
Deputies responded to a residence on Parkersburg Road around 9:43 a.m. after a caller reported a houseguest had become verbally abusive, was suspected of stealing, and had allegedly threatened a family member. The caller also mentioned the presence of knives in the home and that the man had urged his grandmother to kill herself, after an argument over fruit occurred.
Upon arrival, Deputy Roush encountered the man inside the residence. He was taken into custody without incident at first, as deputies learned he had an active warrant out of McDowell County for obstructing an officer.
However, the situation deteriorated quickly. Once in custody, the suspect unleashed a string of verbal slurs and threats toward both responding deputies, Roush and Casto, continuing even after being transported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. He stated he hated “fa***t pigs”.
Inside the booking area, the man reportedly began kicking the holding cell door and attacked Deputy Roush when the door was opened. A violent struggle followed, with the suspect attempting to strike officers and refusing to comply with commands. Officers ultimately had to deploy a Taser to regain control.
Both deputies sustained minor injuries during the scuffle, including cuts and scratches. The suspect was eventually restrained and secured in a holding cell.
He now faces two counts of obstructing an officer and two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, with charges filed under West Virginia State Codes §61-5-17(a) and §61-2-10b(d).
