RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A federal jury has found Alfred Leslie Pittman, 36, of Harper Heights, guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm, following a one-day trial held on Monday in Beckley.
According to trial evidence, Pittman was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by officers from the Beckley Police Department on April 26, 2023. During the traffic stop, law enforcement discovered Pittman in possession of a Taurus G2C 9mm pistol equipped with an extended magazine.
Federal law prohibits individuals with prior felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition. Pittman had a previous conviction for first-degree robbery in Raleigh County Circuit Court on June 2, 2015. Prosecutors proved that Pittman was aware of his status as a convicted felon and the legal restrictions against his possession of a firearm.
Pittman now faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for September 5, 2025.
“The defendant knew he had been convicted of a felony, robbery in the first degree, and was therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm. He is now being held accountable for his criminal conduct,” said Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston. “I commend the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Beckley Police Department for their investigative work in this case. Assistant United States Attorneys Brian D. Parsons and Joshua Hanks and our trial team did an excellent job in this case and I commend them for securing the guilty verdict.”
Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk presided over the trial.
